Hinoki & Ginger? How could I resist?
My most recent purchase at the hippy grocery store was EO Bath House Bubble Bath, Hinoki & Ginger.
I’ll pretty much buy anything exotic sounding and this immediately reminded me of my honeymoon in Japan. My honeymoon was filled with bathing in the Japanese style since we stayed mostly at Japanese style ryokan.
Also this product has this quote on the bottle, “yu: hot water
The Japanese ritual of bathing places the emphasis on purification and relaxation - “mindful soaking” - a valued part of daily life. There is no easier way to create space and privacy for yourself than a few moments in the bath. “.
See how the Japanese have this shit down? When it comes to bathing they do not mess around, everything is very polite, and has a ritual steeped in tradition. As a big fat white lady with tattoos I was clearly often blunderingly wrong… but I did my best.
My favorite ryokan was in Hakone and had a separate bath house that was like 4 stories high. The women’s bathing area was huge and partially outdoors where they had a super hot bathing pool with waterfalls all done up like a secret mountain hide-a-way. It didn’t hurt that we WERE on a mountain and fancy-ass bamboo was draping itself over the walls practically with actual real live monkeys in it.
Back to the issue at hand - This bath product is excellent and I recommend it. The scent is subtle and has staying power as do the very lush bubbles. You do not have to use a whole lot of the product in order to get results.
Oh and in case you are wondering, hinoki is a type of wood that is often used to make soaking tubs in Japan because then you add hot water it releases the yummy smell of the wood. You can also get hinoki wood sake cups and pitchers and get rip roaringly tipsy in style while soaking in your ginger-hinoki stuff.
